I was quite resistant to podcasts when they first began to gain popularity. I mean, I already have an issue with eavesdropping on people’s conversations when I’m out, why would I intentionally engage in more of that?! I’m only half kidding.
But it wasn’t until I began my dietetics degree at the University of British Columbia and drove back and forth from Vancouver to Calgary multiple times a year to visit family that I realized their value. Nothing passes a 12 hour drive like my favourite nutrition podcasts! And some of these conversations are what first inspired me to learn more about the non-diet movement and Health At Every Size(R).
Whether you are new to the non-diet approach, or farther along on your journey to food freedom, I believe that these nutrition podcasts have something for everyone.

Food Psych with Christy Harrison
This was the podcast that changed it all for me. Food Psych was my introduction to the harms of diet culture and challenged my current thinking. Unfortunately, much of our nutrition education is still very weight-centric and deeply rooted in diet culture, a topic for another time. Being exposed to these conversations during my degree was so helpful, as it allowed me to think more critically about how I was practicing and the kind of dietitian that I wanted to become.
Let Us Eat Cake Podcast
I love this podcast, created by two non-diet dietitians in Vancouver. It’s witty, funny, light-hearted and cuts through the lies of diet culture in one fell swoop. I love this podcast as a way to get your feet wet if you’re new to the non-diet approach. Hannah and Ali provide great insight into nutrition science, and de-bunk diet myths we’ve commonly fallen prey to.
The Mindful Dietitian Podcast
Hosted by Fiona Sutherland, a non-diet dietitian based in Melbourne, Australia, this podcast explores the complexities, challenges, and nuances of promoting the non-diet approach. With conversations from dietitians all over the world, I find this podcast is more geared towards other dietitians and clinicians who are learning how to adopt the non-diet approach. But still open to all who want to listen!
Cut Through Nutrition Podcast
So this nutrition podcast only has a few episodes, but I love them all. Dr. Joshua Wolrich is a surgeon in the UK who is aligned with Health at Every Size(R), and frankly, super hilarious and incredibly intelligent. On this podcast, he partners up with nutrition PhD Alan Flanagan to discuss nutrition mis-information and the nuances of nutrition research. Lots of myth busting and sarcasm in this one!
Don’t Salt My Game Podcast
Another hilarious and informative one. Laura Thomas is sassy, sarcastic, and hilarious and unpacks a ton of nutrition mis-information in this podcast. She has great guests on to discuss Intuitive Eating, body positivity, social media, and disordered eating.
